Perfect for visitors of all ages, the lighthouse grounds feature a museum and collection of historical attractions to offer a glimpse into the lives of early pioneers and Native Americans.

Experience the thrill of climbing the lighthouse tower, getting in touch with local nature, and exploring the area’s roots as you bask in the warm sunlight shrouding the attraction.

A Rich, Storied History

Soon after entering, visitors can stop by the Tindall Pioneer Homestead, the earliest house still existing in Jupiter. The home is furnished with pieces from the museum’s collection. Take a peek into the daily lives of European settlers learning to live off the land while exploring time-appropriate art and architecture.

Also available is the Seminole Chickee, constructed in May 2009 by James Billie, Chairman of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. This gorgeous structure stands as a tribute to the history of the Seminoles people in the area.

Native Americans near Jupiter farmed, fished, and boated in the areas surrounding the lighthouse for centuries, shaping the area’s culture and helping early Lighthouse Keepers navigate their responsibilities.

The lighthouse itself was not constructed until 1853, when Congress authorized its building and designated a 61.5-acre space for it. Jupiter was one of several lighthouse projects assigned to Lieutenant George Gordon Meade, who would go on to defeat Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Gettysburg just ten years later.

Meade was responsible for selecting the site and creating its original design. Following the Civil War, local Confederate sympathizers turned the lighthouse off until 1866, when it was relighted once more.
